"Mallselyting" in Caleta de Fuste

April 24, 2017

[Week of April 17 - 23]

Monday - So today we went bowling with Zenon. Then afterwards my companion and I had a Noche De Hogar at Ronald's house. Zenòn and Yuver came with us. We had a really good time. We shared a message about Faith and sometimes how our trials get to the point where they almost burn us and then they go away. I'll have to show you when I come home, but it's a pretty cool object lesson.

Howard, Harrison, Ronald, & Elder Harris

Tuesday - So this morning because Elder Reese is the District leader, he headed over to Gran Canaria for an intercambio. Which means that Elder Ward, Elder Douglas and I had a trio intercambio. It was super fun working with Elder Douglas again seeing as how I was just companions with him for the last two weeks of last transfer. His Spanish has gotten super good in the past 4 months it's awesome to see him getting so good at the language. Today we had English class and Jorge came as usual. As well, we had a new lady named Elisabeth that showed up and she was super nice. She actually lives in the South of the island so she said she's probably only gonna be able to come like once a week, but, she's awesome.

Wednesday - Today we were still on intercambios because Elder Reese is gonna be in Gran Canaria until tonight at 8:30. This morning we did a lot of pass-bys and tried to find some new people. Then this afternoon we did basically the same thing. It was fun. Then we took the guagua down to the airport. We picked up Elder Reese and then we headed home for the day.

Thursday - This morning we had district meeting. Then after district meeting we did half of our weekly planning session. Then some members brought us a baked rabbit for lunch. It was delicious! I would eat it again for sure. Then this afternoon we did some finding, talked to some good people.

Friday - This morning we went down to Caleta de Fuste and we tried to do some pass-bys and finding down there. We ran into some members from England and they were here for vacation. Then we stopped in the mall and did some "mallselyting" which is where you go and look like you are interested in a product and then when the worker or owner comes over you get them to ask you who you are and why you are there. It works pretty good. Then we went back up to Puerto. Then we ate lunch, did studies and then we had English Class with Jorge. Right afterwards we taught him the Restoration using the 20 minute version of the movie. He really liked it and said he felt the Spirit.

Saturday - This morning we played fútbol. Then we went home and showered. Then we went over to Bill and Margarita's house. We ate Curry and rice. Bill is British so, he likes Indian food. This afternoon we did some pass-bys and nothing really came from it. But, tonight we met with John and his dad. John has been kinda bummed but we got him to commit to at least read and pray everyday. He said he would and hopefully by doing that he's gonna start coming back. He's a good guy.

Sunday - Church was really good today. Then we ate lunch at Zenon's house. Then we had Correlation. Then we did our studies and then we went to Yolanda's house for dinner. She made some really delicious lasagna and we ate some really good cake too. I love her food. I'm gonna miss this area for her food. Haha!

Monday - Today we are going to go mini golf with Ronald and Zenon and Yuver. I will try to get some pictures. That's about our only plan for the day so it will be a chill day.

Love you all,
Elder Harris

P.s. I took out another 100 for my emergency fund.

Puerto del Rosario

April 17, 2017

[Week of April 11 - 17]

Tuesday - So today was a pretty good day. We had District meeting this morning. Then  we ate Burger King for lunch, you may ask why? Well it's not because my companion locked us out of our Piso. Haha! So yea we got locked out and we were stranded outside for a while and then we called our deuño or Piso owner to have him help us get back in. After that we had English class at 7. We are starting to meet with Jorge again and we met with him tonight. Then we met with Nathalia and Christian. We shared with them both the Prince of Peace video. They really liked it. It was a pretty good day.

Wednesday - This morning was a finding morning. We were out the whole morning looking for new people and by bad luck I think we were always just one street away from the people. After Medio día we did some more finding in the South part of Puerto del Rosario where tampoco did we find anybody. We stayed down there until about 7 and then we called and set up an appointment with John and his dad to meet at 8. John has been kind of bummed out all of the time recently because he didn't get into the military like he wanted to and for some reason he has connected that with the church. We talked to him today about a Mormon Message called Earthly Father, Heavenly Father. We talked about the love of God and how through prayer we can receive answers and comfort for any situation. He seemed to really enjoy it.

Puerto Del Rosario

Thursday - So this morning we left the Piso a little bit early like at 8:30 to go to Paco and Nati's house in Antigua to do more service out there. We were there until about 1:45. Then my companion and I headed back to Puerto because we had set up an eating appointment with Ronald and Alicia. They fed us some really good lasagna and we talked all about the good places in Puerto del Rosario to get something to eat. Then this afternoon we did weekly planning and our studies. We are excited for the upcoming week.

Friday - Today we had another really good service opportunity. Yolanda called and asked if we could help paint her house and so we said yes of course. She lives in a Piso with three stories so you could say there was a lot to paint. We were there for about 6 hours today painting and then she made us paella for lunch. Then my companion and I taught English class. Then we met with Jorge again. He recently had a friend that passed away so he was kinda bummed about that. We shared the Because of Him Mormon message and talked about how Christ overcame everything so that we can feel comfort in these hard moments and so that we can feel love in our dark moments. He really liked it and seemed to feel a lot better afterwards.

Painting Yolanda's House

Saturday - So today we went back to Yolanda's to finish the painting. Today we were there for about the same amount of time and we worked to try and get it all finished. We finished probably 90% of it which is a big help because she could just finish the rest after we left.

Sunday - Today was good, church was good. Then we went to Zenon's house for lunch. Then after that we had Correlation with Zenon. Then my companion and I did our studies. Then we contacted for a good amount of time later today. It was a pretty good day.

Monday - Today we are going to go bowling with Zenon's son, Zenon. Other than that we don't really have any other plans. I'll let you know if we do anything cool.

New Suit

I'm sorry to hear about Zelma's passing, please send my condolences. I'm excited for Sam to get his Eagle that's gonna be so good for him. It also crazy that he's going to Prom. He's getting old and I'm getting older, I can't wait to see him soon here in 7 months and beat him in a wrestling match. Yes I got my Valentines package about a month and a half ago. Thanks for the pillow case.

Can you send an email or call the Troseths and thank them for the letter they sent me?

Elder Harris

Corralejo, Betancuria, and Cuevas de Ajuy

April 10, 2017

[Week of April 3 – 10, 2017]

Tuesday - This morning we attempted basically all of the pass-bys we could and no one seemed to be home. Today for lunch we ate pasta, and it was pretty good. Then we did some finding in Puerto around where we live. We had English class at 7 and we had a surprise visit from Jorge our investigator from when Elder Perez and I were together. He told us he felt like he needed to be talking about Jesus more so he decided he wants to start taking the lessons again. We were so excited!

Wednesday - Today I did an intercambio with Elder Reese. He's from Highland, Utah and he's going to be playing football at Dixie State after the mission. He's pretty cool and we had a good day finding and teaching people. We met with Howard and Harrison a couple of JAS here in our branch. We showed them the Prince of Peace video and ate cookies. It was pretty awesome.

Thursday - This morning we did weekly planning. Then as we usually do now we went to Paco and Nati's and started working on the house some more. It should be done by August at the latest so we are basically gonna be able to say we've built a house. Its a really fun experience working and building all of it.

Friday - This morning we took the bus up to Corralejo to meet with Lidia, a less active member. Then, we came back to Puerto and did some pass-bys. We ate some sandwiches for lunch today and then we did our studies. After that we met with Patricia and we showed her the Easter video. She really enjoyed it and we talked about some problems she is having right now and how Christ can help through all of that. She really liked it. We had English class again today and we met with Jorge. At the end he told us he was gonna come to church and that he was excited to be restarting the lessons.

Saturday - So this morning we played fútbol with just a member named Zenoncito or Zenon junior, because he was the only one who showed up. It was really fun actually and because Elder Reese is a football player he has an American football and so we ran plays and had a really good time. Then for lunch we ate lunch with a member named Luzma and her friend Megan who is actually an investigator of the other Elders. We ate burritos and they were really good.

Sunday - Today was fast and testimony meeting and it was really good. I got to translate for a couple of German people that were there. Then we ate lunch with Zenon. Then we taught a less active guy named Odum and his wife. It went pretty well. Then we had Correlation and after that we ate with Yolanda. Overall it was a good day.

Monday - So today for P-day we went with Jose Balaños to Betancuria as well we visited a place called Cuevas de Ajuy. It was really fun and the caves were super cool that we got to see. I have been spoiled getting to come to such a beautiful area with so many cool things to do.

Beautiful Betancuria

Los Guanches (Stripling Warriors?)
I bought the suit. I'll send a picture. We met with John and his dad on Wednesday. John didn't get into the military and because of that he has felt really down recently. He's kinda putting that with the church in one bucket and he feels discouraged. There's still lots of potential we'll see what we can do to help him this week.

Conference in the Canaries

April 3, 2017

[Week of March 27 - April 2]

Tuesday and Wednesday - Well I had some more migraines and didn't really get to do much. I don't really know what the deal is with them but they come and go every once and a while. So we pretty much just chilled in Piso. I slept like 17 hours on Tuesday.
Elders Ward & Harris
Thursday - Today was awesome, we got to go and do service again at Paco and Nati's house. We are still working on the roofing and some clearing out of old stuff. It was really fun. I love that in this area we get to do so much service! This is my only area where I can say we've done service basically every week. After service we went home and did studies and went to bed because we have to catch a 8:30 flight to Tenerife.

House we're working on

Elders Harris, Pulotu & Douglas

Friday - Today we had zone conference in Tenerife. It was really great! We saw the new Easter initiative video, Prince of Peace. It is amazing! If you haven't seen it I challenge you to watch it. It has a great message and it isn't very long. As well, if you could share it on Social media that would be awesome. It's an easy thing to do, and it will help people to know that we are Christians and that we believe in the same Savior everyone does. Today was actually my first time in Tenerife and I loved it. The island is so green and beautiful. It's more humid than our island but it would definitely be worth coming back and trying to see the cool stuff on it.

Saturday - So today we caught a 7 a.m. Flight back to Fuerteventura. We had to get up at 5 a.m. and then try to catch a taxi to the airport because there is not a bus that early in the morning. We got to the airport at about 6 and waited to take off. I love that we get to fly around so much and try out all the other islands. It's a blessing of being on your own island. We watched conference today and it was Amazing! I don't know if I have a favorite talk but I really loved all of it. Seriously it was a spiritual feast for the World. I can't believe when I was younger I didn't like watching it or paying attention. We watched both of the Saturday day sessions today and tomorrow we will watch Priesthood and the other two sessions tomorrow.

Sunday - Today was really good as well, the sessions of conference were amazing. My favorite talk overall was Dale G. Renlund's talk. Although I also really enjoyed the talks by D Todd and Dallin H. Oaks. The whole thing was great and to hear the announcement of new temples was cool. If there was a general theme I would have to say that I think it is building personal testimonies of the basics and striving to become like Christ. There was also a lot of focus on the Holy Ghost. As well, Ulisses Soares talked and that was really cool because I literally just hugged that man like 6 weeks ago and now I'm receiving instruction from him in general conference. It was a very spiritually uplifting experience all around and I'm already excited for conference in October.

                                                            Drive from Antigua

Monday - Today we are having a really laid back P-day and just chilling. Next pday we will be hanging out with Jose Balaños. Oh, so my suit ripped. And I doubt we are gonna be able to fix it again. So to buy a new one I'll need about 100$ or a little more. It'll be a nice good quality suit from Zara. This could just be my birthday present if that's okay with you guys? I ripped my suit by literally bending over very slowly to pick up a pen. I was trying to be careful and it happened anyways. Today we made burritos for lunch and they were delicious. I actually really enjoy cooking and learning how to make new dishes. Maybe I'll be a professional cook someday. Haha! I would really love to see if maybe when I come home I can take some cooking classes...but, it would just be a hobby. I also really want to learn how to dance like they do here. Like the salsa or Bachata dances.

Beautiful Sunset

Love,

Elder Harris
